A useful dashboard starts with a decision.

Build a measurement framework your team can use, without adding noise.

Name the decision first

Before choosing a chart, describe the action it should inform. A dashboard designed around decisions can be more useful than a collection of every metric available.

Keep the definitions consistent

Document what each measure means, its source, and its limitations. A shared definition of a qualified inquiry, for example, helps marketing and sales discuss the same thing.

Create a review rhythm

Assign an owner and a review schedule. Look at patterns in context, record your assumptions, and identify a next step. Measurement becomes useful when someone is responsible for acting on it.

This perspective provides general business information. Your priorities and decisions will depend on your circumstances.
